Defensive Handgun II

An intermediate to advanced course focusing on the skills needed to survive a gunfight. The only prerequisite for the course is well established safe gun handling.

This 6 hour course is designed for the person who is an experienced handgun shooter and wants to learn more about technique and the skills needed to survive a gunfight. We teach the basics of defensive shooting including shooting from the holster, engaging targets from close range to extended ranges, engaging on the move, multiple assailants, proactive and reactive reloads and so on.

One handed shooting using both the strong and support hands is emphasized. During the movement exercises it becomes obvious that unsighted fire is both faster and can be very accurate. This is a key aspect of the course and the FSA principles. We also examine malfunction drills and weapon transition, don't stop fighting simply because your weapon has stopped.

This course is based on the Fairbairn Sykes Applegate school of movement and unsighted fire. There is a heavy emphasis on movement before and while firing. Aside from a brief warm up all shooting is done on the move. Sighted fire is not denigrated but we do focus on learning how to shoot well and accurately without using the sights. These skills are much more applicable to the reactive gun fight a civilian would expect then the skills taught in Modern Technique courses.

Also see Defensive Handgun I which is based upon the Modern Technique of the Pistol developed by Col. Jeff Cooper. The Modern Technique emphasizes a smooth fast draw, proper stance and sighted fire. The goal is to shoot quickly and accurately at any distance required. For competition and LE or military roles the Modern Technique is the first choice.

You may take both courses in either order but if you are interested in taking both I suggest doing them in the order of I then II.

The course starts with a one hour classroom session and safety briefing followed by 4 hours on the range and a 1 hour wrap up session.
